SPAYING & NEUTERING

Spaying and Neutering are the terms applied to both dogs and cats. To spay or neuter is the process of removing all of the reproductive organs so that the animals cannot reproduce.  Spaying is the process of removing the female reproductive organs and often requies an over night stay  Neutering is the process of removing the male reproductive organs and they often go home the same day.  Neither of the animals seem to be in pain but they do sleep a bit more for the first few days.

Just as humans have a reproductive cycle, so do our furry friends but unfortunately they produce more offspring than we do at one time and they can have babies more than once a year.  Due to this fact there are many, many unwanted babies of the furry kind.  It is much more humane and caring to neuter or spay an animal than it is to let them reproduce unwanted offspring because the offspring usually end up being killed sometime shortly after birth.  Some pets are allowed to be born only to be killed moments later by the owner of the pet ~ or if the owner allows them to live, they often suffer from neglect or abuse.  Those pets that roam free often die from accidents or disease, or even exposure to the elements.  A few of the pets on the street may end up in animal shelters but most do not and of the ones that do end up in the shelter, most are often euthanized.  Why bring an unwanted life into this world only to destroy it through lack of responsibility?.  This is not what caring, kind and compassionate people do.

While the babies of these offspring are quite cute, cuddly and irrisistable ~ people seem to forget that they do not stay that way.  Just as we grow up, so do our pets, however they do it at a considerably faster rate than humans.  Often little puppies grow into large dogs ~ the once cuddly puppy that you held just a few months ago now walks all over you and often causes messes in the home if not properly trained.  The cute kitties can grow into large cats that claw your household items to shreds and many uncaring owners allow them to roam free in the neighbourhood leaving feces all over.

Why do I mention this?  Because people have to realize that having a pet means taking responsibility for it.  A pet is like a child that never grows up.  A pet is a full time responsibility ~ for the entire life span of the pet.  You have to clean up after it [inside and outside of the house].  You have to feed it, provide grooming for it [if needed], clean the animal [give it a bath if needed] and look after it's health [teeth, coat, weight, nails, ears, etc.].  Because you are responsible for its health you need to make sure it is not going to have unwanted babies or make unwanted ones either ~ this is part of being a responsible and caring pet owner.

It is much more humane to neuter or spay your pet than to allow it to reproduce the unwanted offspring.  It is much kinder to spend a little preventative money now than to allow the animals to reproduce.  Why bring a life into this world just to have it put to sleep, or 'euthanized' as they call it.  No matter what name it is given, it means the death of an unwanted pet and far too many are euthanized every day.

Did you know that neutering or spaying your pet can make it live longer?  It's true.  I have learned from vets that the males can often develop large cysts and other blockages in their reproductive organs that causes pain and suffering ~ and death.  These growths cause a shortened life span.

I have seen the videos put out by the Toronto Humane Society in their efforts to get people to do the right thing ~ to stop letting their pets reproduce unwanted offspring.  I  have seen homes where the feces and urine was so deep and strong and there were so many dead animals that they were taking them out by the shovel full.  I have sat and cried at what so called humans have done to these furry beings through torture and abuse.  I have balled my eyes out as they euthanized a young puppy who was so malnourished from neglect that there was no way it could survive despite the best efforts of the clinic.  Is this what you want for your pet?  This may seem a bit graphic and horrible to some but I would prefer people become more responsible for their actions and to know what suffering they might cause tbrough their inactions.  Refusal to take responsibility for a pet is very unhumane.  Your pets give you so much love and isn't it time you showed more of yours?  Help save the life of your pet and stop unwanted pregnancies by neutering or spaying your pet today.  Make an appointment.  Do the right thing.

Do you see the cute little bundles of fur on this page?  If you love animals then you don't want to see them being abused, injured, malnourished, starving or worse.  You don't want to see the larger bundles of fur being harmed either.  Click on the link below for the Toronto Human Society for more information on the neutering and spaying of our pet animals.

Please ~ do the right thing ~ save a life today!
